Chapter 5

Marjorie let out a groan as she regained consciousness, now back in her human form. She opened her eyes and sat up.

Stupid move.

A mind-splitting headache took over that very second, "Ai! Ai! OW!" She whined, quickly laying back down, holding her head in her hands.

Her groan awoke Rosy, who blinked lethargically a few times, trying to make sense of the world. There was a piercing ringing in her ears, and her whole body was shaky and weak. She felt like she was going to retch.

"Hey, they're up!" Naruto hissed excitedly, and there was a shuffle of leaves. "Hey Marjorie, you okay?" he whispered.

“No…” Marjorie said with a slight whimper, “It feels like a tree or something landed on my head…” She winced in pain as she sat up again, slowly this time, “Oi… how long were we out?”

"I said half a day," Naruto repeated, a bit louder this time.

"What?"

"Half a day!"

"Can you speak up?" Marjorie asked, frowning. Naruto sighed. It seemed her hearing was temporarily impaired. He leaned right into her ear and repeated himself for a third time. Marjorie smiled warmly as his breath tickled her jaw, and she heard him this time.

"Oh. Why didn't you just say that before?"

Everyone sweat-dropped.

"So, are we all ready to go?" Rosy asked, looking around. Naruto was awake and hyper, 'much too hyper for someone just possessed by the Kyuubi' Rosy thought.  Sakura was also awake, though seeming a bit worse for wear with her hair dramatically shortened from her fight with Kin, and Sasuke... was hunched over, sitting on a log, brooding. His back was to them, and was ignoring their conversation altogether.

Rosy got up, albeit a bit shakily, and walked over to the dark-haired boy. "Sasuke," she said quietly, laying a hand on his shoulder.

"What?" His reply was brash and Rosy flinched inwardly.

"We have to go, but if you just want to rest and think for a bit, that's okay too." She leaned in closer and whispered in his ear. "I know you have the curse-mark, and I fully understand if you need to rest."

Sasuke stiffened. "N-No, I'm fine, let's go. I don't want to keep the team waiting."

Marjorie stood up, and winced in pain once again, “Gah! Owe! What the hell?” She placed her hand on her lower back where the pain was, and found blood. It was the stab wound the Zaku gave her, “Damn, I forgot about that…”

"Want me to carry you?" Naruto asked, looking concerned as he eyed the wound on her back.

"Yes please!" she replied, before he had even finished his sentence. Naruto turned around and bent over slightly. Marjorie wrapped her arms loosely around his neck, and he hooked his arms under her legs and pulled her atop his back. Marjorie nuzzled her face in his thick, blond hair, breathing deeply.

Rosy sweat-dropped, “Beyond totally obsessed…”

Marjorie winked discreetly at Rosy as Naruto walked past, and Rosy tugged gently on Sasuke's wrist, silently telling him it was time to go. He rose, slowly, and followed Naruto. All the while he rubbed his lower neck,
'or his trapezius muscle,'
the medic in Rosy thought. Sakura then followed Sasuke, and Rosy took the rear.

"We just have to make it to the tower now without getting attacked or losing any scrolls," Naruto said to Sasuke, stating the obvious to raise spirits.

"Hn."

“This place should’ve been named ‘The Forest of Hell.” Marjorie muttered.

Everyone seemed to silently agree with Marjorie. This, so far, had not been a fun experience.

Suddenly there was a loud rumble, and everyone looked around in alarm.

"What was that?" Sakura asked.

"... my stomach," Marjorie moaned.

“Um… Marjorie-Chan? When was the last time you ate?” Rosy asked.

“Uh…” Marjorie thought for a moment then smiled sheepishly, “Right before the exams with Naruto at the ramen shop…”

"What??" Naruto cried, stopping dead in his tracks. "You didn't get any of the rabbit or buck??"

"... Nope."

"I declare this point in time," Naruto gently let Marjorie down, and punched a fist in the air, "A LUNCH BREAK!"

"You make it sound like the apocalypse," Sasuke snorted.

Marjorie smiled weakly, “Hey, no need to stop or worry about me. I’ll be fine until we get to the tower. We’re not that far from it…”

Naruto frowned. "No way. We're eating. Right now."

"We don't have food 'right now'," Sakura reminded him, looking a bit hungry herself.

"I could hunt something..." Marjorie began.

"No way I'm letting you do that," Naruto said protectively. "You need to rest."

"I could do something," Rosy offered. She was only a little hungry, and had eaten some of the rabbit. She focused her chakra in her right arm, imagining what she was doing when she had summoned those snakes on Naruto's balcony. She finally broke past an invisible barrier and there was an explosion of built up chakra; she hadn't realized how much she was trying to push past that barrier. A puff of smoke - and there it was.

"You're so beautiful!" Rosy gasped in appreciation, a snake breeder herself. Its scales felt almost silky, and could feel all the muscles flexing beneath them. The snake was thick and powerful, about seven feet long. "Can you hunt us some food?" she asked politely, her face level with the snake's.

"Yesss, Misstresssss." It slithered off into the dense undergrowth.

Rosy watched in awe as the snake disappeared. It has to be the most beautiful creature she had ever seen.

"Rosy-chan?" Marjorie asked, waving a hand in front of her face. "Are you okay? You look like you've just seen the love of your life," she laughed, as Rosy stared into space, dazed.

"In a way, I have," she sighed, smiling.

"I don't know how you can like that thing," Sakura said, and shivered involuntarily. "It's so slimy and ugly."

Rosy's eyes flared. "Snakes aren't slimy, damnit! Their scales are just so shiny and detailed and smooth it may look like it, but they're perfectly dry. And that snake, my dear Sakura, has to be the most stunningly beautiful thing I-have-ever-seen!" Sakura's face paled as everyone stared at her. Rosy hated the prejudice against snakes.

"Misstressss, I have succeeded in completing your request," a wispy voice hissed, and Rosy smiled as the snake spiraled up her leg, its scales smooth and cold. It dropped two fat, white hares in her hand, then disappeared.

“Word to the wise, Sakura.” Marjorie started, “Never say anything negative about snakes in front of Rosy-chan. Or else she’ll go to PMS-mode on you.”

"Yeah, I think I got that," Sakura said shakily.

"Could you make a fire?" Naruto asked Sasuke.

"Nah, we don't have time for that. I'll just roast it."

Naruto rolled his eyes. "You can't roast rabbits without a fi-"

An explosion of fire was loosed from Sasuke's fingers charbroiling the rabbits, now resting on a tree stump.

"Bon Appetit."

“Talk about fast food.” Marjorie said with a smirk.

Naruto picked up one of the rabbits, and Sasuke the other. They both took out a kunai, and started skinning the rabbits. The fur was singed and black from the flames, but the insides were cooked perfectly, heated but protected from burning.

"Here y'are, Majorie." Naruto offered Marjorie a perfectly cooked strip of rabbit meat, and she took it hungrily but thankfully.

"You can have this," Sasuke offered sheepishly, handing a large strip to Rosy. She took it hesitantly.

"You sure? I'm not that hungry... I've eaten the same amount as you."

"Just take it," he said, looking as if Rosy hadn't even really wanted it.

"Um, thanks." She smiled warmly at him.

After several minutes, the team had finished their lunch, and decided it was time to get to the tower. Marjorie was hefted back onto Naruto's back, as he had insisted, and they set off.

The end was in sight. A tower shot straight up into the air, constructed of hard-edges in this soft-edged, natural area.

"Almost there," Sakura said wistfully. "I can finally take a shower."

"I'll shift to my leopard form, maybe keep a few ambushers at bay," Marjorie said, and slid off of Naruto's back. "Kuroneko no Jutsu!" she cried, stifling a yawn. The team inwardly smiled as their cat senses returned - it like putting a high-definition filter on an old tv.

“I hope Iruka-Sensei won’t be too mad at us…” Marjorie said to Rosy as they neared the tower

Rosy winced inwardly. She knew Iruka would be the one to greet Team 7, and he would flip out that Rosy and Marjorie had entered, accidentally or not.

“WHAT!?” Marjorie and Rosy yelled in unison, “We were FORCED into the exam AGAISNT our wills, and nearly killed, and YOU KNEW ABOUT IT!!” They jumped at Iruka but were held back by Team 7.

Iruka shrugged, looking regretful. "I figured you guys could use the experience. I didn't know the exams were so brutal!"

Marjorie sweat-dropped, “It was called the Forest of DEATH for a reason!” she yelled flailing her arms up and down.

Iruka seemed at a loss for words. "Well, at least you guys passed, r-right?"

"Right." Sakura confirmed, pulling Marjorie off Iruka, who still hadn't gotten a good hit.

"You guys can go through this door to the third part," Iruka said, getting out of Marjorie's reach.

"WHAT!?" Marjorie fumed, "Now you're gonna make us do the third part!?"

"We're weren't even supposed to do the exams sensei!" Rosy pouted.

"Come on! Just let me hit him! Just once!" Marjorie growled, still trying to get Iruka, but the team still held her down, "Let me at him! Let me at him!"

"You can always chicken out," Sasuke proposed, looking indifferent. Rosy didn't know why, but she didn't want Sasuke to see her cave.

"No way." She hooked her arms through Marjorie's. "We're taking this test, and we're going to pass it. Right Marjorie?"

"... Um, right...?" Marjorie then pointed a finger at Iruka, “But don’t think you’re off the hook sensei! I’ll get you for this!”

“Come on!” Rosy dragged Marjorie through the door before she could attack Iruka

As soon as they all went into the room, something or rather someone grabbed Marjorie’s butt. She widen her eyes and yelped, “WHAT THE HELL!” She whirled around and glared at the person, but then blinked.

She never saw this guy before on the show, or in the Manga.

Wired.

He had blonde hair like Naruto’s, but with two long bangs that hanged over his black forehead procter, which had the insignia of the Sand Village on it. He wore black pants and short sleeved tight brown shirt.

“Who are you…?”

I’m the man of your dreams!” He said with a dorky smile.

“Er…” Marjorie sweat-dropped, “I meant your name…”

“The name’s Ken.” He grinned and draped his arm around her shoulder, “And you have to the most beautiful girl I’ve ever laid eyes on.”

Rosy cocked an eyebrow. She didn't remember this person either.

Ken turned to get another view of Marjorie's butt, and whistled. "You must be wearing spacepants, 'cause your ass is out of this world."

Marjorie's eyes flared with fire. "Try and grab anything, and I will personally have you castrated, dragged across the Sahara, and beaten with your own entrails."

"Oh, I like 'em feisty," he teased, and ducked a blow.

“I and hate wanna-be players with lame pick up lines!” Marjorie shrugged his arm off.

Ken just shrugged, “Whatever.” He turned to leave, but then saw Rosy, and was by her side in less then a second, “At last I have found my true love!” He exclaimed as he quickly hugged her.

Rosy froze. Was she supposed to flattered and warm or icy and disapproving? In this moment's hesitation, he grabbed her ass with both hands, and then she decided - why not icy and disapproving? And maybe a little side of violence.

A swift knee to the groin, and he wasn't a problem any more.

“Pervert!” She yelled as Ken let out a high girly yell and doubled over in pain.

"Oi! Stop messing around!" an older ninja barked. "Pay attention to the Third!" Everyone looked to the front of them room, where the Third was standing patiently.

“Oh my gosh Ken! Quite bugging those poor girls and get back over here!” Hissed a girl not too far away. She had medium length brown hair, which was up in a high ponytail. Her skin was a slight tan, and her eyes were a bluish-gray. She wore a short purple kimono, and she too, had a black forehead procter with the insignia of the Sand Village, but it was tied around her right upper leg. She must’ve been one of Ken’s team members.

“Okay! Don’t get your pretty pink panties in a knot, Tausha!” Ken said, after recovering from Rosy’s’ little bit of violence’. He winked at Marjorie and Rosy before running over to his team.

Marjorie and Rosy blinked. Now there were two characters that they never seen before.

Very weird.

"Okay now, you guys are all survivors of the Forest of Death, and for that, I congratulate you," The Third said warmly. "However, there are far more contestants left than we expected, and we will need to eliminate about half of you in a preliminary exam."

Everyone groaned. They had just gotten out of the Forest of Death. When would they get a break?

Marjorie was too busy thinking to listen, “This is weird, Rosy-chan…” She whispered to her friend, “I never saw those two ever in any of the episodes or the manga…”

Rosy nodded in puzzled agreement. This was... odd. That was it, odd.

“I guess us being here really is changing things...
Mwahaha a plot twist! I bet you're just loving these constent cliffhangers huh? :giggle:
